Jeff Smith to
Portray Mosby as a Private
This
year marks the 140th anniversary of the start of the
Civil War. The biggest reenactment event of the 140th
aniversary cycle this year wlll be the reenactment of
First Manassas, held on a site north of Leesburg the
first weekend in August. For more information on the
event, go to www.FirstManassas.com
In the
battle, Mosby's unit, the Washington Mounted Rifles (Co.
L, 1st Virginia Cavalry) were not called up until the
very end, despite the frustration of their captain,
William "Grumble" Jones, who urged the squadron's
commander, Major Swan to engage.
The
Mosby Museum (John Singleton Mosby Foundation) will have
a membership / fundraising booth at the reenactment. We
ran a booth at the Gettysburg event which was very well
received by spectators and reenactors alike.
John Singleton
Mosby Living History Association Formed
To
provide a focal point for the living history activities
being organized via this website, we have recently
organized the John Singleton Mosby Living History
Association. Watch this space as details
unfold.
Descendant
Contacts Expanding:
In the
last few months, we have met, either in person or via
email a great many more Ranger descendants, including a
descendant of Col. Mosby's brother, Battalion Adjutant
Willie Mosby. Based on the information they have sent, we
will soon be expanding the number of biography pages on
individual rangers, so watch this space!
