This
website is dedicated to the memory of Virgil Carrington
"Pat" Jones and Jim Moyer, two giants in the field of
Mosby research, both of whom passed away in the autumn of
1999.
Pat
Jones' seminal work, Ranger
Mosby,
first published in 1944 played an essential role in
ensuring that Col. Mosby's contributions to the
Confederate war effort would be properly understood and
appreciated. It was the first significant work on Mosby
to be published since the Colonel's own memoirs
were published posthumously in 1917. Mosby descendants
kindly gave Mr. Jones access to their records and
consented to interviews. Had he not written this
information down, it probably would have lost to
posterity forever.
Jim
Moyer's guidebook to Mosby's Confederacy is unfortunately
out of print and copies are hard to come by. Mr. Moyer
made a substantial contribution in researching and
mapping out the areas in which the 43rd battalions raids
and other significant events took place, and in
organizing and narrating the annual Mosby Bus Tour. He
also co-authored the five volume set of "Mosby Vignettes"
with fellow Mosby historian Tom Evans. These are
privately published and are available through Mr. Evans
(see bookstore
for
