J. Wright James, Quartermaster

J. Wright James joined the command on July 28, 1864, having been enlisted by Mosby at Upperville. Two months later, on September 27, he was promoted to Quartermaster. In March of 1865, he was captured and sent to Fort McHenry, where he remained throught the end of the War. He was released in June when he took the oath of allegiance.

P.152, Mosby's Rangers (1896) James J. Williamson gives an account of his capture and suggests that he may have held the rank of captain. "when our Quartermaster, Captain James, John Bolling and major Hibbs, who were pressing corn and bacon in Loudoun..." The incident is mentioned again on page 360.
