weekend: "The Heritage of the Horse" -- Annual
Snickersville Turnpike Association cavalry ride, to aid
historic preservation. Stay tuned for details. Worthwhile
event organized to raise money to preserve some of the
most important unspoiled landscape in America, in the
core of "Mosby's Confederacy"

"An
Evening with Col. Mosby and Kitty Kitchen Hanna" -- first
person living history presentation for the Herndon Public
Library as a follow up to the Herndon raid event,
featuring Jeff Smith as Col. Mosby and Kathryn Coombs as
Mrs. Hanna.
We are
exploring holding an event in effect "reenacting" the
reunions of Mosby's men held from 1895-1928. The
primary purpose would be for descendants, historians and
living historians to exchange stories. Watch this space
for details.

1: Annual Blue and Gray Ball in honor of Col.
Mosby's birthday, held by the Mosby Museum. Jeff
portrayed Col. Mosby and our friends in the Black Horse
Troop (Co H, 4th VA Cavalry) made a dramatic entrance on
horseback by torchlight.

8: Attended Stuart Mosby Society meeting in
commemoration of Col. Mosby's Birthday on December

14: Jeff attends R.E. Lee Camp, SCV annual Christmas
Party in character as Col. Mosby
October
2001:
Friends
from the "Historic Mosby's Rangers" living history group
in Washington State, led by Brian Buntain, pay their
annual visit to Virginia. The JSMLHA organizes for them
a mini-event at Sky Meadows State Park wherein they and
Jeff Smith portrayed Mosby's men returning from a raid to
Mt Bleak, a Mosby "safe house" where Mrs. Settle and her
friends had lunch prepared for them. Afterwards,
participants attend the dedication of the
VDOT highway marker commemorating the death of
Ranger James "Big Yankee" Ames. (photos

Dedication
of the VDOT highway marker for "Mosby's Rock", near
Frying Pan, organized by Richard Crouch and the Mosby's
Rock Association. Jeff Smith did the honors as Colonel
Mosby and Kathryn Coombs provided narration as Laura
Ratcliffe. Colonel Mosby's great-grandniece, Lucy
Russell, represented the Mosby family. (photos

Jeff
portrays PRIVATE John Singleton Mosby, Co L, 1st Virginia
Cavalry (Washington Mounted Rifles) at 140th anniversary
reenactment of the battle of First
Manassas
Herndon
Historical Society anniversary ceremony. Jeff, as Colonel
Mosby and Kathryn, as Kitty Kitchen Hanna, give a brief
presentation to the society's meeting marking their
anniversary also marked by postal first day
covers.
July
2001:
Jeff
portrays Col. Mosby and Kathryn portrays Pauline Mosby at
annual picnic of the John Singleton Mosby Camp, SCV, in
Front Royal.

4 Weekend: Battle of Gettysburg Reenactment. Jeff and
Kathryn run a fundraising booth at the reenactment to aid
the J.S. Mosby Foundation / Mosby Museum
project.

June
9 -
Durin the day, Jeff portrayed Col. Mosby and gave a talk
in first person at the rededication of the Mt. Zion
Church, Aldie Virginia, following extensive restoration.
Restoration of the church was done with Federal ISTEA
funds, following an active effort by the Mosby
Heritage Area Assn.
Our friend Bob Szabo the period wetplate photographer has
done some beautiful ambrotypes
of the church.
In the evening, we attended the Mosby Museum (J.S. Mosby
Foundation) fundraising Barn Dance at the Inn at Kelly's
Ford.
May
2001:
May
5th -- First annual Blenheim event and
mini-reenactment of capture of General Stoughton,
organized by Fairfax City Parks and Recreation and Co, D,
17th Virginia Infantry. General Stoughton portrayed by
Steve Wolfsberger of the 17th Virginia. (photos
forthcoming)
May
19th -- Jeff and Kathryn assisted with the John
Singleton Mosby Foundation (Warrenton Mosby House Museum)
booth at the annual Warrenton Festival. Jeff
portrayed Col. Mosby and posed for photographs with
tourists in exchange for a donation to the
museum.
