(author's bio.) is the most comprehensive source for compiled information on the campaigns of the 43rd which includes a revised roster with biographical information where available, in alphabetical index format at the back of the book. A MUST for every 43rd Battalion researcher. WHY doesn't Amazon carry it??

The book is part of the Virginia Regimental Histories series, published by M.E. Howard, Inc., it is available from the publisher and selected bookstores.

Mosby's Fighting Parson: The Life and Times of Sam Chapman
by Peter A. Brown is a fascinating study of Ranger Sam Chapman and his brother Lt. Col. William Chapman, and unlike previous histories of Mosby's command contains considerable material on the detachment under Willam Chapman sent to the Northern neck in January -March, 1865.

This classic series of large format soft cover books of ca. 100 pages each was started by Tom Evans and the late Jim Moyer, now being continued by Don Hakenson and Gregg Dudding at Tom Evan's request. They contain previously unpublished photographs, history tidbits and local lore about Mosby's command. Now available for purchase via Don Hakenson's website.

Subjects include: Fairfax Courthouse raid, Mosby's low point at Loudoun Heights, the valley executions, various newspaper accounts about Colonel Mosby, and more.

Mosby", the John W Munson memoirs, "Reminiscences of a Mosby Guerilla", Col. Mosby's own books, and the series of Mosby's letters reprinted by the Stuart Mosby Society.     ResearchOnline.net offers digitized versions on CD Rom of the memoirs of 43rd Battalion members John Munson, John Alexander, Dr. Aristides Montiero and Colonel Mosby's War Remiscences and his book on Stuart's Cavalry campaigns. Each CD is $15. The Montiero work and Col. Mosby's memoirs are also available for free reading online (see below) and Munson's memoirs have been reprinted and are available from Clio's History Bookshop (above). However, we are not aware of another source of the Alexander memoirs, reprinted by Butternut press, but we believe currently out of print.
