Col. Mosby's parents and wife

John Singleton Mosby was born on December 6, 1833, the second-born and eldest surviving child of Virginia Jackson McLaurine Mosby (b. 1815) and Alfred Daniel Mosby (b. 1809). The couple's eldest child, Cornelia, had died in infancy.

After John, came six daughters -Ada, Victoria, Lucy, Leila, Florence, and Blakeley and a second son, William.


He married the former Pauline Clarke, of Frankfort, Kentucky in 1857 and had eight children, six of whom survived to adulthood.
